SURGICAL RESEARCH
DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY

FACULTY OF MEDICINE
University of Malaya

The Surgical Research Committee (SRC)

In the Department of Surgery, we believe Research is an essential component of clinical surgical training and practice.

The Surgical Research Unit was established in 2014 to facilitate all Department of Surgery research related activities including research training and education, research audits, dissemination of research grants/workshop related information and management of research components of clinical and research postgraduates’ programmes within the department.

The Surgical Research Unit members work to improve cross talk between Basic Science Researchers and Clinical Practitioners to encourage translational research work. This includes both bench to bedside and bedside to bench collaborations and projects in conjunction with the establishment of our Surgical Lab in 2014.

The unit also constantly works to improve the quality of basic science and clinical research projects among our Postgraduates students. This aids to address local and global issues for various surgical pathology related research questions. We function as a one stop centre for our students and academics to publicize research related information and courses run locally and internationally, conduct talks and workshops catered to our academic and training needs as well as archive research achievements related to our department.

The primary objective of the Surgical Research Unit is to educate, train and upgrade the quality of research within the department as well as to instil critical thinking, written and communication skills among fellow colleagues and our students.
