Research Summary
Our aim in the recent treatment of breast cancer is towards breast conservation or coupled with reconstruction in mastectomy cases. My area of interest including level 2 and 3 oncoplastic surgery including latissimus dorsi and transversus rectus abdominis muscles pedicled flap construction, fat lipomodelling, breast implant and other local oncoplastic techniques.
The other promising field but yet still at an exploratory stage is the introduction of cryoablation in early breast cancer with tumour size less than 1.5cm with good tumour characteristics. Iceball is created around the tumour to induce necrosis and death of the tumour cells. This is a collaboration with the breast
Main Research Interest / Goals
- Develop new horizon in minimally invasive breast cancer treatment i.e. cryoablation
- To expand the service and improvement in the technique of breast reconstruction especially hybrid method of reconstruction and lipomodelling
- Develop a reliable tumour marker for screening of breast cancer
- Introduction of endoscopic mastectomy techniques and later robotic mastectomy in this centre
